Emerson Smith joined Farr Yacht Design in July 2008 as a Naval Architect upon graduating from the Webb Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. His responsibilities include processing research data for conceptual design and hull development and conducting rating studies for design optimization.
During his tenure at Webb, Emerson served as an intern at FYD, the U.S. Coast Guard Yard, Antrim Associates Naval Architects and sailed as an engine cadet on the container ship SS KAUAI.
Originally from Maryland, Emerson began sailing during his summers in Maine. At the age of 12, he began teaching sailing at the local yacht club and eventually progressed to running the sailing school. While attending Webb, Emerson raced keelboats of all sizes on Long Island Sound.
Since his relocation to the Annapolis area, Emerson continues to hone his sailing skills by racing on a variety of vessels on the Chesapeake Bay.
